During the old days, being called Nouveau Riche was sort of derogatory, meaning that unlike the rich families who had inherited most of their wealth along with the breeding and pedigree that normally comes with it, these people were just new to having money and were not considered to be part of the nobility no matter how much they tried to fit in. Everyone, thus wanted to have money but timidly did not want to make any mistakes in society so as not to be labeled as a Nouveau Riche crowd.

Today however, being Nouveau Riche has been championed throughout the world. Unlike the old rich who just needed to be born to get all their money, these people had come from a lower bracket in society but had persevered and worked hard to acquire their wealth. And with the imbalance between the poor and the rich, this label can be worn with pride because it meant that you climbed out of the poor house and provided a better future for yourself.

And so being Nouveau Riche no longer came with disdain but is championed all throughout as being essentially the new model for a great many of those wanting to be rich themselves.
